The drawbacks are quite evident. Firstly, smart pens allow instant translation with just a scan — immediate and effortless. Yet this very efficiency often keeps students from looking into key words and phrases. Without slowing down to deliberate on them, word definitions are less likely to be retained long-term, which directly affects our vocabulary accumulation and overall language proficiency. Moreover, in real-world situations, we cannot always resort to a translator when facing comprehension obstacles — that's when reasoning and inference skills matter most. Smart pens, however, specialize in providing full-sentence translation instead of single-phrase annotation, which may impair our general capacity to grasp the inherent relevance between sentences independently.
Therefore, I suggest we use smart pens more wisely. Try looking up only key words instead of translating whole sentences, and make an attempt to guess meanings first. For deeper learning, a printed dictionary or learner's app that provides example sentences and usage notes can help foster a more sensible and comprehensive word-field awareness. With conscious effort, we can all develop more active and effective learning habits.
